Laura

Laura's dedication will blow you out of the water. Last year she crushed her 3rd Street workout a whopping 216 times (36 more visits than the next-highest visitor!) Oh yeah, and she's dominated multiple Bootcamps since 2017. 🔥 This #3rdstreettribe legend has set the bar high, fam!

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I never boxed before my first 3rd St. bootcamp! My (now) sister in-law invited me to a bootcamp before her wedding, and I reluctantly said yes even though I had never woken up at 5am for anything.. After that, I was hooked.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“Boxing is infinity challenging, both physically and mentally. There’s always room to improve, and push yourself to be better. Someone better is always ready to punch you in the face! I train to prove to myself I am strong, and can accomplish my goals if I work hard - and that strength carries over into all other aspects of my life.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“Bring thought and awareness to class and your workouts - you will get out of it what you put in. Don’t get discouraged if you feel like you aren’t good enough, everyone starts as a beginner, just stick with it.”

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I used to do Takewondo growing up which helped my leg strength and flexibility. I wanted to do something similar but strengthen my upper body and transform my water gunz. One day on my way to Hard Knox Cafe, I walked by 3rd Street Boxing which caught my eye. I signed up for a class, and I've been hooked since. I even moved from SoMa to Dogpatch to optimize for my boxing routine hahaha.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“Boxing is a great way to stay healthy not only physically but also emotionally. It helps me de-stress and lets me feel a less guilty eating one, two, or ten scoops of ice cream. But the best part about boxing is the community. I like going to classes, seeing familiar faces, dying while Paul warmly greets visitors and lets a round of partner combos go on much longer, and witnessing everyone improve over time. Bummed I missed the holiday party but the party is more evidence that 3rd Street embodies a sense of community and cares about its members.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“It's what you do when you're about to hit a wall that makes you even stronger! And thinking about something that pisses me off helps me!”

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“A few years ago I found myself in San Francisco and saw 3rd Street Gym a block away from work. I had boxed intermittently previously, but never stuck with it. The location of the gym got me in the door, the quality of the people and instruction kept me coming back.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“I train to me more capable, both in terms of fitness and skillset. Boxing provides a physical workout, but also has a significant mental component. It prevents things from getting boring, which is the crux of sticking with any kind of fitness regime.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“The most challenging part for me is showing up. If you're new maybe it is intimidating. If you're experienced maybe it just means waking up earlier. But I've never regretted it when I have walked in the door, only when I haven't. Just show up.”
