How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I used to do Takewondo growing up which helped my leg strength and flexibility. I wanted to do something similar but strengthen my upper body and transform my water gunz. One day on my way to Hard Knox Cafe, I walked by 3rd Street Boxing which caught my eye. I signed up for a class, and I've been hooked since. I even moved from SoMa to Dogpatch to optimize for my boxing routine hahaha.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“Boxing is a great way to stay healthy not only physically but also emotionally. It helps me de-stress and lets me feel a less guilty eating one, two, or ten scoops of ice cream. But the best part about boxing is the community. I like going to classes, seeing familiar faces, dying while Paul warmly greets visitors and lets a round of partner combos go on much longer, and witnessing everyone improve over time. Bummed I missed the holiday party but the party is more evidence that 3rd Street embodies a sense of community and cares about its members.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“It's what you do when you're about to hit a wall that makes you even stronger! And thinking about something that pisses me off helps me!”
