Ravi

Meet Ravi. Sometimes you just have to dive right into something new. Five years later, he's another one of our #3rdstreettribe veteran Bootcampers, and not looking back! 👊

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I was a complete noob before I stepped into 3rd St 5 years ago. I’d read about the Bootcamps and I felt like the intensity of the program was both intimidating and motivating. After a lot of deliberation I simply jumped in and I haven’t looked back.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“Where to begin? The camaraderie of the Bootcamps has been addicting – the people coming through the doors of 3rd St are some of the best people in the Bay Area. The feeling of accomplishment (both post-workout and post-Bootcamp) is difficult to match.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“Boxing is a humbling sport – there’s so much to know, to work on, to refine. Simply walking into the gym is a victory because you’re actively working to make yourself better. Get in and get to work!”

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“My trainer introduced me to the punching bag after a particularly intense day. Loved it immediately so I took a few classes and kept boxing in my workout rotation. When I moved to Dogpatch, I stopped in on a recommendation, and once you meet Paul how can you not want to work out at Third Street?”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“Boxing is a killer workout for your body *and* your mind. Cardio, endurance, strength training and agility are all pretty obvious, but there's a mental challenge too. It demands that you engage wholly and the focus pushes everything else out, which is really restorative and resetting (like yoga). Also: boxers looks great in sleeveless shirts. 😀”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“3rd Street is for everyone. Absolutely try it and don't judge yourself the first time out.”

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I did various martial arts in my teens and early 20s and loved them all. As I approach my 40s, the weight doesn't stay off like it used to so I went looking for a local combat sports gym to join and get moving again. I found 3rd Street after some online searching and the fact that it is run by a fellow Dubliner was a welcome surprise!”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“I love that boxing combines a high intensity full-body workout with a lot of mentally demanding aspects. The mental demands keep me engaged and prevent me from getting bored - there are always incremental improvements to be made.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“It's a very friendly vibe at 3rd Street so don't be intimidated if you've never done a combat sport before. You will definitely get a great workout either way, but it's worth trying to focus on technique and form as you start out.”
