How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?
βAs a 12-year-old, I stumbled upon Friday Night Fights on ESPN. I became mesmerized by the action, the skill, the stories, and most importantly, the heart of the fighters. Years later, I finally started training when I graduated college and moved to Philly. Since then, training has been a core part of my identity. When I moved to SF, I sought out a gym to join, so I signed up for a boot camp at 3rd Street Gym. Immediately, I knew this was the right gym for me. It's been four years and counting...β
What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?
βYou discover who you are when you push yourself to your limits. The best part about boxing is that you're always rediscovering your limits. The first time I sparred, I learned so much about my will to push forward, no matter how exhausted my legs were. Though I'm (mostly) done with sparring, I still love training to stay in shape and to let out a bit of aggression.β
Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?
βJust. Say. Yes. Boxing is one of the best full body workouts that you can have. Plus, you won't find a boxing gym in SF with a better set of trainers and a more welcoming community. There are classes for all levels and, unlike other gyms that I've attended, you'll learn proper technique at 3rd Street Gym.β
