Before My Workout
How do I wrap my hands?
If time allows, front desk staff will be happy to show you how to do it your first time. After that, please refer back to this video to practice on your own.
Are hand wraps required?
You must wrap your hands if you take any boxing class. Please arrive before class with enough time to put your wraps on.
Should I sign up for class in advance?
Yes. Not only does it secure your spot for our most popular classes, it also helps the teacher tailor their class for the group! It also makes check-in smooth and fast when you arrive. Please only add yourself to classes you actually plan on attending.
I'm on the waitlist for class. When will I know if I got in?
If a spot opens up, you will be added in the order you were added to the waitlist. You should receive a text and/or email letting you know - please respond confirming you will or will not attend.
Do I need to sign a waiver?
Yes. If you create your account on our app or website, the waiver is part of the process. If you walk in or are visiting through ClassPass, please sign one at the front desk.
I'm trying to book a class but it's saying I don't have the 'pre-requisite'. What does this mean?
We require all new folks to take our Beginner Boxing class before taking any other classes. This ensures the best experience for you and other clients. However, if you have prior boxing experience, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org after creating your account. We will check off your Beginner Boxing pre-req, allowing you to book other classes.
I've boxed before. Do I still need to take Beginner Boxing?
If you have significant boxing experience, shoot us an email at email@example.com after creating your account. We will check off your Beginner Boxing pre-req, allowing you to book other classes. However, each gym has their own punch numbering system, so taking our beginner class is a good way to familiarize yourself with how we do things.
What should I do If I can't make it to my class?
Remove yourself from the roster. This will make your spot available for other clients, and ensure your session is not deducted if you are paying with a drop-in or package.
What should I do If I can't make it to a personal training appointment?
If you let us know at least 24 hours in advance, we can cancel your appointment no problem. If you must cancel less than 24 hours ahead, the session will be deducted as if you had attended.
During My Workout
Where do I check in?
For classes and Bootcamp, use the sign-in iPad at the front desk. Find your name on the roster and check yourself in. If you didn't sign up in advance, you can add yourself if there is room. If you are just coming in to work out, or you have a PT appointment, give the front desk your name and we will sign you in.
Where can I leave my stuff during class?
Most folks leave their stuff in the cubbies during class. This is a secure, friendly place :)
What equipment do I need?
If you are taking Beginner Boxing or a strength & conditioning class, all you will need is a jump rope for warm-up. For any other boxing classes you will need a jump rope, hand wraps, and gloves. Double check the equipment requirements in the class description. All equipment can be rented or purchased at the front desk.
What should I wear?
Regular workout clothes are fine!
What shoes should I wear?
Boxing shoes (wrestling shoes work) are recommended, but not required. Otherwise, wear cross-trainers or tennis shoes. Please, no high heels in the gym (to protect our flooring). Please don't go barefoot (that's gross).
What's the class limit / average class size?
Class limits range between 12 and 25 depending on the class and time of day. You can view open and total spots for each class on the schedule.
I have an injury. Can I still do class?
Most likely, yes. Our trainers are great at accommodating clients with injuries and providing alternative exercises. Just let them know before class.
I'm just looking to use the gym / weights / treadmills / bags on my own. Can I do that?
Yes! You can drop-in to the facility without taking a class. We have a bunch of equipment just for you. Check out a full list here.
After My Workout
What are the punch numbers at 3rd Street?
For right-handers they are as follows (reverse right and left if you're southpaw)
- 1 = jab
- 2 = right cross
- 3 = left hook to the head
- 4 = left hook to the body
- 5 = right hook to the body
- 6 = left uppercut
- 7 = right uppercut
- 8 = right hook to the head
I still feel a little insecure with my punches. Who can help me?
Any of our trainers would love to help you! Just pull them aside after class, or when they aren't busy teaching.
What class should I take after Beginner Boxing?
Depends on what your goal is.
- Ready to dive headfirst into everything we have to offer? Sign up for our famous Bootcamp!
- If you're hoping to reinforce what you learned about boxing technique, try Old School Boxing, Boxers' Workout, or consider booking a 1-on-1 Personal Training session.
- Try HIIT Boxing if you'd like to get an interval-training cardio boxing type workout in.
- Tough Love is our hardest and most popular class, combining boxing and strength and conditioning exercises. We recommend waiting to take this until you feel comfortable with basic stance and technique.
- If your goal is to spar and compete, you'll feel most at home in our Fight program, which is technique-focused smaller group training. You will also have the opportunity to spar in the ring.
- If you're just starting out with boxing, you're probably not yet ready for Intro To Sparring, but come back when you want to put on headgear and practice the real deal. It's a lot of fun!
- Looking for kickass strength & conditioning? Check out Feel The Resistance and Shred & Tread.
Do I need to take Beginner Boxing more than once?
While most folks are ready to jump into other classes after one Beginner Boxing class, you're welcome to take it again if you'd like to reinforce learning the stance and punch numbering! Please note we only offer your first Beginner class for free.
Do you sell food or drinks?
We sell bottled water, VitaminWater Zero, and TeaCrush sparkling tea at the front desk. No food here, but we can direct you to some great spots nearby!
Memberships & Pricing
What are your rates?
What's the benefit of becoming a member?
Our memberships are "unlimited" which means you can use our facilities and services as much as you'd like during the month (depending on which level of membership you buy). Also, members get reduced prices for Bootcamp and Personal Training.
I've been a member before. Do I need to pay the $75 enrollment fee to join again?
No! This fee is one-time-only and only charged for your very first membership at 3rd Street. In order for us to waive the fee, sign up with us at the front desk, or shoot us a call or email and we can set you up if you have a card on file.
Can I get an extension for my class package?
Within reason, this is usually not a problem. Just send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know your situation.
Can my friend / family member / whoever use one of my classes from my package?
Sorry, class packs are non-transferrable. However, if you refer them via our rewards program, they can get a free class!
Are your memberships month-to-month or contract-based?
By default, our memberships are month-to-month. We do offer longer-term contracts for reduced monthly dues. See here for more info.
Where can I find more info on your membership policies?
How do I see my purchase history, schedule, or update my card info?
The easiest way is to download our mobile app, but you can also do so by clicking "My Account" in the footer of our website.
Why can't I book a class after a certain date?
If you're trying to book a class after the date your membership bills, the system won't let you do it until that date arrives and your payment goes through. For example, if your membership bills each month on the 25th, you won't be able to book a class on the 26th until your payment processes on the 25th.
How do I redeem rewards points?
Redeem your rewards here, or via the Perkville tab in our app. We can also redeem them for you at the front desk.
Can I put my contract on hold?
Yes. If you are on a 6 or 12-month contract, we can pause your membership for a fee of $50 per month (or $30 with documented injury or medical reason). The end date of your contract will be extended by the number of months you pause.
How do I cancel my membership?
We need to have all membership cancellation requests in writing. Shoot us a note at email@example.com and we will help cancel your membership ASAP!
