How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?
“It was Muay Thai that lead me to Boxing. About 7 years ago I left an intense career in Strategy Consulting and decided to re-prioritize fitness. The gym I was a member of for over 5 years in Toronto became a family, a second a home, a part of my daily life. I even met my husband there. After relocating to the Bay Area, my husband and I went on a search for a gym that met our needs. We tried out at least 6-7 martial art studios around San Francisco and none had the intensity and the culture we were looking for, until we decided to give boxing and 3rd street a try. After a few classes we knew we had found our gym - the vibe was inspiring and positive, the staff and the trainers were friendly and knowledgeable and the workout was intense and rewarding. We stopped ClassPass and signed on as members, that was about a year ago.”
What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?
“What I love most about boxing and martial arts in general, is the discipline itself. It's not just workout for sake of working out. It's the opportunity to immerse in a culture and the art, to continuously evolve a skill and have the chance to practice and improve. The mental and physical improvements are just added bonus.”
Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?
“For newbies, to get the most out of the experience, I suggest focusing on developing the skill first and very quickly the fitness will follow. The most rewarding part is not the harder abs (I know hard to believe), but it's the confidence in knowing a skill and the commitment to fine tuning and bettering that skill.”
