How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I started boxing to challenge myself and to get into shape. I followed trainer Ed "Ironman" Gutierrez from another boxing gym to 3rd Street and never looked back. He was one of the best trainers at 3rd street. I still hear his booming voice in my head every time I train.

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“Boxing is a full mind, body, spirit workout. It's an outlet for me from everyday stresses in life and to stay in shape. As a 7 year Breast Cancer Survivor, health and fitness is a huge priority for me. Boxing helped get me through my treatments and reminded me to keep fighting. #fightlikeagirl I'll always have a special place for Ed, Laura and Paul who supported me through the biggest fight of my life.”

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I first started training at a boxing gym after college. Despite living in a number of cities over the past decade I've eventually always found my way back to one. 3rd Street became my neighborhood gym when I moved to SF (shoutout to Dogpatch!) -- doing the month-long bootcamp last year motivated me to get back to boxing after a long time away.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“I find normal 'working out' boring but boxing has always managed to feel continually challenging and interesting. I appreciate the lack of frills and pretension, the mental aspect of perfecting technique, and it's a great de-stresser.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“Executing combos and proper technique can feel intimidating at first, but muscle memory is amazing, haha. You will be stunned at how you feel yourself get better, faster, and stronger week by week. At 3rd Street, I've always appreciated how more experienced and skilled members are patient with newer members, and often have helpful tips. No egos, everyone's pulling for one another!”

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I was hit by a car six years ago, which caused permanent damage to my left ankle. My friend suggested boxing as a way to get cardio using mainly my upper body, then I became addicted. I'm able to modify the workout and still come out in a swimming pool of sweat. I found 3rd Street through Classpass.”
