Hazel

Hazel (and her husband) are a true testament to the fact that couples who box together, stay together. We love seeing them in class! #3rdstreettribe

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“My husband bought 2 pairs of gloves back in 2015. For months I had them but once I tried a class with Ed at 3rd street back in 2015, I could not take my gloves off. 😀”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“The best part is being able to push myself to the limit. I have always been athletic and like to work hard to become a stronger person. Boxing offers that. It gave me different discipline I never had before. On the plus side, I get to look great!”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“Although there is lots to learn, be patient with yourself. Anything you learn will test your character and boxing definitely gives you that opportunity. Take it!”

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I got into boxing after reading a book where the protagonist goes from a wimp to a hero partly through learning to box. I knew Third Street as the "other gym" (sorry Paul) because I had first joined a different SF boxing gym. When the time came to join a new gym, I thought I'd give it shot.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“I love boxing so to me there are a lot of good parts about boxing. Obviously the exercise and physical benefits. I also like the fact that a lot of truisms in boxing are applicable to real life. I train because if I don't, I'll die (not literally. You know what I mean).”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“For newbies: learn to relax.”

Adriana

Adriana is a beast, often doing 2 classes per day! Truly a solid member of the #3rdstreettribe

How did you get into boxing and how did you find yourself at 3rd Street?

“I have always enjoyed watching boxing but could never see myself actually boxing, but then I started hearing this hype about Rumble (oh oh, still havent tried it out). I moved back from New York this past September and did a little research on boxing gyms in the bay. The reviews on 3rd Street said it all. My mom and I had been looking for a gym where we could take classes together and bond while getting a good workout in. 3rd Street has literally became our second home.”

What's the best part about boxing? Why do you train?

“The best part about boxing is letting out all the stresses and anxiety I have. Everything else becomes easy compared to what we do at 3rd Street. I train for myself, for my mental well being, to become stronger and quicker, the weight loss and muscle growth is just an added bonus.”

Any words of advice or encouragement for newbies?

“It is easy to be intimidated as a newbie. DON'T BE. Ask for help when you need it, take in all the advice and critique and don't take it personal. Lastly, try all the classes out, you will find a favorite, but mix it up because every trainer has their own style and will learn something different from everyone.”
